Pochote Market

Every Friday and Saturday you can shop and have breakfast at Oaxaca’s charming organic market.

Pochote market

Held in the beautiful gardens of the Pochote cinema (on Garcia Vigil street), sellers congregate from about 10 in the morning bringing an amazing variety of produce: fresh farm eggs, vegetables - from onions to okra, herbs, Oaxacan cheeses and dairy goods – all fresh, certified organic and delicious.

The breakfasts are also not to be missed! Who wouldn’t want to eat fresh corn tacos or quesadillas (a traditional blue corn is usually available) with fillings as exotic as rabbit in a spicy sauce, a local herb called ‘huazontle’ or tostadas with mushrooms in a cream and chipotle sauce?
Sit under shady jacaranda trees and start your weekend with a fresh fruit water drink, coffee or for the more adventurous a prehispanic cocoa based drink called Tejate. It’s the perfect way to start the weekend, support local organic farms and producers.
